Nepal Visa Requirements
All foreign nationals, except Indians, are required to have a valid visa to enter Nepal. Requirements for tourist visa include: Valid passport with a minimum of six-month validity period at the time of entry into Nepal. Duly filled in Visa application form with a photograph affixed.
Getting in to Nepal in order to see its superb natural wonders and numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites is not an elusive dream at all. For one thing, acquiring a Nepal visa is an easy and hassle-free process!
A visa for Nepal can be obtained on arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Outside of Nepal, A visa can also be obtained at the nearest Nepal Embassy or Diplomatic Mission. To renew a Visa you can go to the Department of Immigration, Kalikasthan, Kathmandu.
The Nepal visa is relatively liberal, allowing citizens of almost all nations to obtain a tourist visa on arrival. In accordance with the law, citizens of all countries except India require a visa.
Unvaccinated travelers wishing to enter Nepal must apply in advance, present their itinerary and have travel insurance. Visas on arrival are suspended. Vaccinated travelers are eligible for visa on arrival.
Nepal Visa Requirements
- A valid passport and one passport -size photo with a light background.
- Visa can be obtained only through payment of cash in the following currency: Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar and Japanese Yen.
- Credit card, Indian currency and Nepali currency are not accepted as payment of visa fees

Gratis (Free) Visa
- For a first visit in one visa year (January to December) , gratis visa for 30 days is available only for nationals of South Asian countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. However, visa can be extended from the Immigration Department on payment of visa fee as specified above.
- Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Nepal.
Nepal Visa for Indian Nationals
Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Nepal. As per the Nepalese Immigration, Indian Nationals traveling to Nepal by air must possess any one of the following documents.
- Passport
- Election Commission Card
Nepal Visa for Chinese Nationals
As per official circular of the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, China, Chinese nationals applying for tourist visa to Nepal are being provided “gratis tourist visa” from 5th Jan 2016, from following Nepali missions in the People’s Republic of China:

Other Visa Information
Nationals from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan will need to obtain visa from Nepal Embassies or Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries, as they do not get visa on arrival at the immigration entry points of Nepal.
Visa Extension for Nepal
Tourists can stay for a maximum of 150 days in a visa year (Jan 1 to Dec 31).
Overstaying Tourist Visas in Nepal
Foreigners who overstay their tourist visa less than 30 days are charged a penalty fine of US $3/day as well as an additional extension fee of $2/day. These fees must be paid the Department of Immigration office in Kathmandu, not at Tribhuvan International Airport.
The best way for foreign travelers to avoid this problem however is simply to not overstay their visa. The fines mentioned above, heavier fines if the tourist overstayed beyond 30 days, and arrest are possible consequences.

Quarantine rules in Nepal (Updated 2022)
All fully vaccinated foreigners arriving in Nepal via the immigration office at the airport or a land border can receive on-arrival visas or visas in advance of travel from Nepali diplomatic missions abroad.
A COVID antigen test is mandated on arrival at the port of entry. No quarantine is required for those testing negative. If testing positive, such travelers will immediately be placed in government-mandated isolation at their own cost.
Those who are not tested at the port of entry must provide test results within 24 hours and every 72 hours thereafter.
Fully-vaccinated travelers traveling to Nepal must present the following documents:
- Evidence of completion of a 14 day post-COVID-19 vaccination incubation period
- COVID-19 negative test (RT-PCR, Gene Expert, True NAAR or WHO-accredited test) obtained within 72 hours of the departure from port of embarkment or within 72 hours, if entering Nepal by land
- Copy of mountaineering/trekking permits, or related permits, if available
- Proof of hotel reservation in Nepal
- Printed copy of International Traveler Online Arrival Form obtained after registration: ccmc.gov.np
All unvaccinated foreigners arriving in Nepal must obtain a visa in advance of travel from a Nepali diplomatic mission abroad. A COVID antigen test is mandated on arrival at the port of entry.
If testing negative, travelers are permitted to travel onward to their destination, but will be required to enter hotel quarantine for 5 days. If testing negative by PCR test on the 6th day, such travelers will be permitted to depart quarantine.
If testing positive, such travelers will immediately be placed in government-mandated isolation at their own cost. NB: Negative PCR test results will be required to exit isolation or quarantine. All COVID testing, isolation, and quarantine costs will be at traveler’s own expense.
