AmaDablam is a mountain in the Himalaya range of eastern Nepal. The main peak is 6,856 metres the lower western peak is 5,563 metres (18,251 ft). Ama Dablam means "Mother and Pearl Necklace" (the perennial hanging glacier is thought of as the pearl) and is a stunningly beautiful mountain that many people who visit the area will consider the best in the region. For several days, Ama Dablam will dominate the eastern sky for anyone trekking to Mount Everest.

Mt. Ama Dablam is mostly a rock climb up fixed lines that we will all take part in putting in if the timing is right. Some rock climbing ability really helps here. You will need crampons for some of the snow/ice (the upper mountain) and mixed stretches, so experience with the use of these helps a lot. Of course you will need to be in an above average shape and a positive mental attitude is as important as good physical condition.

Our climb is the classic southwest ridge, an alpine climber's dream route with its ice faces and steep, clean rock in a spectacular Himalayan setting. From Ama Dablam's summit, four of the world's highest peaks are visible in a spectacular panorama: Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Everest and Makalu. The striking Ama Dablam is the most recognized mountain in the region and is certainly one of the most coveted summits for Himalayan climbers. The ascent up Ama Dablam epitomizes climbing artistry at its highest level.

Our team assembles in Kathmandu and flies to the village of Lukla. From Lukla we trek the famed "Everest Route through historic Namche, Tengboche and on to, our Base Camp beneath the sublime west face of Ama Dablam.
